1. What are we trying to accomplish?

Today we are at a state where there is no peace in an individual, family, nation and the world. Every individual needs peace. We don’t have to search for peace outside. Peace is in one’s mind and the mind is inside. That is why for us to have peace we have to experience it in our mind. When a person is at peace, it gives rise to good thoughts.  These good creative thoughts enable the growth of a person, family, society and spreads to the entire world.  The good thoughts that arise within a person give rise to knowledge. That knowledge becomes the seed for world peace. That is what ‘Universal Peace through Individual Peace’ is.

It is knowledge that makes us take precautions before a storm comes or build a dam before a flood.  In the same way, instead of making peace after war, it is better to avoid a war.Scientists of various fields are predicting that a lot of natural calamities may happen in the year 2012.  The principle of yoga is to prevent rather than to cure. When we unite the scattered power of the individual minds on to one point, it manifests itself as a great energy.Global Peace Day is a massive effort to unite all human minds.  Instead of everyone saying there is no peace in this world, what can an individual do for peace? This should be an effort by every individual. So, if everyone takes a resolution that ‘I am peacekeeper, I am family peacekeeper, I am national peacekeeper, I am Global peacekeeper’ there will automatically be peace in this world. Global Peace Day emphasizes this responsibility of an individual to the world.

Everyone should come forward to take on their individual responsibility. On the initiative of the Universal Peace Foundation of Malaysia,  is uniting prime ministers, ministers, politicians, bureaucrats – past and present, scientists, educationalists, social activists, religious heads and people from all walks of life to observe this peace together on 11.11.2011 at 11:11AM.  This peaceful vibration would spread as ripples in water to the entire globe. In order for us to remember this moment, we have to observe this one minute of silence every day at 11:11AM.This is also an effort towards the vision of ‘Peace for All 2020’. Every human being should have their needs fulfilled and live a happy life.

 2. What is the effect of this action on Global Peace?

When we observe this silence, we turn our mind inward. By turning the mind inward, it also makes us think of God.  When we think of the Divine which is greater than everything, our thoughts get elevated to the highest level. Good thoughts lead to good words and good words lead to good actions. This is what the world needs today. Global Peace Day is an effort to bring this change to the world. When these peaceful thoughts grow, violence in thoughts and actions is reduced and good deeds flourish. When an individual mind expands violence is automatically reduced.  Universal Peace Foundation uses the word “Globian” as a way to unite the human race that is divided by religion, race, language, color and nation.

3. What is the significance of 11/11/2011 11:11AM?

The date 11.11.2011 occurs only once in a 1000 years.  This is a wonderful opportunity and we should not let this go by. The silence observed at 11:11AM on 11.11.2011 will bring about a great change in this world. An individual’s thought grows into a global thought.  The thought that arose to Gnana Vallal Paranjothi Mahan (fonder of Universal Peace Sanctuary) at the age of 11 on 11.11.1911 at 11:11AM gave rise to Universal Peace Foundation. 11.11.2011 is also the centennial celebration of the Wisdom Day of Gnanavallal Paranjothi Mahan.11.11.1911 also happens to be the day when peace was declared after World War I (at 11:11AM). This is to again remind the world of that peace.  Enough people have already died in wars. We have to create a human race where nobody has to die for the world.
